The Indian Hills Fire Protection District is now using Central Collection Services, a state agency, to collect unpaid bills for ambulance transports.

The state collection agency has a high success rate and is used by other area fire departments, said Karen Nelson, office manager, in her presentation to the district board last Thursday.

In recent months Nelson has tried to collect outstanding bills, which total nearly $8,000. However, the private collection agency that had been working with the district has canceled accounts it had with the fire department, she said.
