Haven't been on this forum in quite awhile. Seeing the title Homestead gives warm fuzzies. Since I kill everything in the garden, thought I'd go technical and check to see who's got a homestead that is off grid?

I'm living in a cabin with electricity from off grid solar panels, no running water but I do have a well bucket :happier: and heat with a combination of woodstove and kerosene heaters. Been like this for 5 years now. Really tough sometimes to rent a car--no utility bills. Anyway, got a kitchen wood and coal burning stove that I need to hitch up--actually, probably need a contractor or chimney sweep. Not hot about cutting a hole in my roof for the chimney. Am really anticipating being able to bake my own bread in that woodstove oven.

Anyone out there living the life as well?

I don't have running water so can sympathize, you get creative when you haul every gallon!
gardening is out of the question, too much water required.

I get along ok, I do have very limited electricity so have to watch what I use at any given time.
10 years now and I have to admit, I'm ready for a nice hot bubble bath!

Hi Cinnamon Girl! You can try some solar stuff even if ya are a city girl. It's pretty magical (actually very scientific, but weren't the wizards of old the scientists of their time?)

Hey, Domino. I hear ya on the hot bubble bath. I go to a conference once per year and rent a motel room with a tub to get my fix!

I used to go to Ameristar in Blackhawk on free stay offers and have more fun in the room than the casino just
taking a bubble bath with a shower the next morning. That's probably why they stopped sending offers,
I didn't gamble enough. :(:

Hi Surveyor,

My neighbor down the street has solar and loves that they actually give to the electric company. It is probably even less now days.
