Barn for Mountain Peace Shelter

Wed Feb 08, 2012 9:46 am

From facebook:

Cheri Burnside
Hey guys! Kathy at the Mountain Peace Shelter has asked me if "this might be a project for the Barnraisers"! Here's the scoop:

On March 1, 2012, the Mountain Peace Shelter anticipates the Grand Opening of the Peace Boutique and Resale Shoppe and the new administrative offices of Mountain Peace Shelter!

60615 S. Highway 285
Bailey, CO 80421
(Formerly known as the Bailey Plaza, Platte Canyon Grill, and Crow's Foot)

Volunteers to help clean, paint, and organize the store.
Construction volunteers to help put up some walls for the office space and donated materials (we will let you know our list when we do!)

Anybody interested?

Here's an update from Kathy on the Mountain Peace Shelter project:

Party!!!! A cleaning/painting party, that is....For those who are interested, the Mountain Peace Boutique and Resale Shoppe needs your help to clean some walls, floors, and paint.

Dates: This coming Wed. 2/15, Fri. 2/17, Sat. 2/18, and Mon. 2/20 from 9am-1pm. You can just bring yourself or, if you would like, here are some suggestions of supplies to help out:

For the first two days bring: jam boxes, buckets, cleaners (like 409 with grease cutters), mops you don't care about, gloves, masks (if you wish), rags, scrub brushes, bleach, brooms/dust pans, garbage bags, ladders, and whatever else you can think of.

I hope to have paint by the second two days, so bring: roller pans, drop cloths, rollers/covers, brushes, brush buckets, brush cleaning brushes, ladders, rags, tape, and again whatever else I am missing.

We will have a day of moving the office over, so trucks and muscle are appreciated!

Thank you! Give me a call or message if you have questions. My cell is: 303-503-6128. Let's get 'er done!

We managed to get some cleaning done, but there is a lot more that needs attention so that the new paint sticks to the wall and ceilings. We will be back there on Friday 2/17/12 at 9:00 AM if anyone can help.

Hooray for 285 Barnraisers!
:woo hoo: You ROCK! :woo hoo:
A BIG Thank You to Cheri for getting the ball rolling and to Bootlegger and Science Chic for coming on down. What a great start and looking forward to seeing more folks on Friday, Saturday and Monday. We have some supplies, so that is helpful. Tall ladders would be great (thank you for loaning your, Bootlegger). Let's keep this party going so we can open our new resale store and administrative offices for the Peace Shelter--for our community! We look forward to saying, "Thank you for shopping Mountain Peace Boutique and Resale Shoppe!" You can know that the funds will go to helping our shelter and community as a whole. Good stuff!

Thanks again and see you Friday!
Peace  ,

Do you still need volunteers?

Most definitely, there's a lot of work yet to be done! :) We'll be back there for sure tomorrow, Saturday, and Monday from 9am-1pm, and they may need help beyond that (once the place is cleaned, painted, and some new flooring installed, they need assistance moving furniture, etc from their old facility to this one and will need trucks and muscle!).

Here are some pictures of what it looks like now:

If I remember right (please correct me if 'm wrong Kathy!), this will be a volunteer staging/collection coordination area. We spent all day yesterday washing the walls in this room to get it ready for paint, and it wasn't even the biggest room in the place (it was filthy with black grease/thick dust everywhere)! :scared:

This will be a classroom/education center where people can learn various skills such as mending torn clothes.

The old kitchen area, the hood in the back is being removed.

That wall needs to come down.

Storage area?

Open area for gathering, whatever.

Open area for gathering, whatever.

What will become new administrative offices.
