I'll be there! I'm about halfway through the helmut liner so bringing that to work on. See you tonight!

This was a wonderful idea I saw posted on the Knit Knook Facebook page!

Quote:
I would like to start a project knitting hats, full-face helmet liners, scarves, mittens, socks etc. for homeless vererans. These items all need to be washable, wool is probably warmest, and NOT drab colors. We have female homeless vets also. Denver has a great Stand Down for homeless vets in November, and that is when I would like to take items to them. Let me know what you think. This is in addition to the Navajo Christmas stockings.

RF, are you making a marine helmet liner like the one posted there on Facebook as well? That looks warm! :like:

If you want some donations of yarn for that project, I'd be happy to buy some yarn for you guys! I'll call Diane and authorize a payment on my credit card, you pick out whatever you'd like when you get there tonight!

Thanks, SC! The current batch we're doing is for a group of female Marines stationed in Afghanistan (Kas and I know both one of those Marines as well as her folks who live here). Kas generously donated the yarn for that project. Definitely give Diane a call, I'm sure we'll have a good group knitting up things for the homeless vets project as well. Thank you!!!!

Already done - you can pick out $20 worth of yarn (choose wisely, young Jedi!) lol I can't find the time to make these kinds of things myself, so I'm glad I can help this way. I encourage anyone else to toss a few dollars in for yarn - it adds up!

While my parents were visiting last week, I brought my Mom by the store to dazzle her (she loved her knitting bowl, BTW). We loved how soft the alpaca wool was, and some of the colors really caught her eye! She was wondering if she can order from Ohio and have it shipped?

Yup, Diane's glad to ship, your mom can just give her a call. (Now, had you brought your mom by our place, she could have seen yummy alpaca while still on the animal! Harder to knit, but much cuter.)

I went to the place yesterday. They have beautiful yarns. I am going to try to make some fingerless gloves (if I find the time) as I saw them at the Canyon River Gallery.

The Knook has a lot of great fingerless glove/mitt patterns. A very easy (and pretty!) one that knits up super fast is a free pattern there by Blue Sky Alpacas for a cabled mitt. They're beautiful made out of either the Blue Sky Alpaca yarn or the Eco-Duo alpaca/wool yarn. Both are very, very soft and warm!
