Community News, Events, and Calendar • Hospice gala tickets go on sale Jan. 10

Thu, 12/15/2016 - 1:41pm
Join Mount Evans Home Health Care & Hospice at their 31ist annual gala on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. at Mount Vernon Country Club (24933 Clubhouse Circle, Golden). This year’s theme, “You’re My Superhero,” will give Mount Evans a chance to celebrate its “superheroes,” the many members of our community who support the agency’s mission to provide expert, compassionate care to all who need it. It will also give those very same supporters a chance to show off their inner superhero with what’s sure to be some of the most colorful costumes ever seen at a mountain-area gathering!

The evening includes dinner, silent and live auctions, and dancing to the band Tunisia. Attendees are encouraged (but not required) to come dressed as their favorite superhero (or supervillain). Tickets, which are $90 (patron level $150), go on sale January 10: purchase online at www.MountEvans.org or call 303-674-6400.

Funds raised at this event will help Mount Evans care for patients with limited financial resources as well as support numerous community services provided by the agency including grief counseling, transportation for patients to medical appointments, respite for caregivers, and Camp Comfort, a bereavement camp for children.

Community News, Events, and Calendar • Mount Evans ranked in top 1% of home health agencies

Sun, 11/20/2016 - 5:55pm
Evergreen-based nonprofit Mount Evans Home Health Care & Hospice has again been named one of the country’s Top 100 home health agencies, placing it in the top one percent in the nation.

Sponsored by DecisionHealth, the HomeCare Elite rankings evaluate approximately 10,000 home health care providers nationwide based on publically available records, and grade each in areas ranging from financial performance to patient experience to quality of care. The top 25 percent are designated HomeCare Elite, a number further refined to highlight the Top 500 and Top 100 agencies.

Mount Evans has received HomeCare Elite status every year since the rankings began in 2006, was named to the Top 500 in 2015, and has now achieved a seat among the Top 100 in three of the last four years. It is one of only two Colorado providers listed in the Top 100 this year, and one of just nine in the state to reach 2016’s Top 500. For a small nonprofit David in a field of corporate Goliaths, that’s a significant achievement and good reason for both satisfaction and gratitude.

“Of course we’re very proud to be ranked in the country’s top one percent,” says Mount Evans’ president and CEO, Charley Shimanski, “but we didn’t do it on our own.”

Founded in 1980, Mount Evans is the mountain area’s only community-based home health and hospice agency, providing a full range of services over large parts of Jefferson and Park counties, and all of Clear Creek and Gilpin counties where Mount Evans stands as the sole local health care provider. Mount Evans is also the founder of Camp Comfort, the award-winning child bereavement program held twice each summer in Empire Junction that has inspired wide emulation across the country.

In a region that’s home to a substantial number of uninsured and under-insured residents, Mount Evans provides services without regard to a client’s ability to pay and relies on private donations for about 25 percent of its operating budget. As to Mount Evans’ selection as a 2016 HomeCare Elite Top 100 agency, Shimanski credits both the organization’s staff of dedicated professionals and the generous support of the community it serves.

“This honor belongs to everyone in the mountain community,” Shimanski says. “We couldn’t do this without them.”

Community News, Events, and Calendar • 2016 Mount Evans Hospice Angels ready to fly

Wed, 11/16/2016 - 8:26pm
Beginning in early September, a unique group of volunteers called the Angel Makers began gathering twice a week at Mount Evans Home Health Care & Hospice, just as they have each year since 1993. They were working on a very special project—the 2016 Mount Evans Angel—that just might solve your holiday gift-giving dilemmas.

The 2016 Mount Evans Angel, nine inches tall, is a country dream with an old-fashioned dress of burgundy and cream burlap, accessorized with twine hair and halo, heart-shaped wings, and tiny white flowers. As a keepsake, this angel offers a striking way to honor your loved ones, friends and neighbors. As a memento, the angels serve as a visible, year-round reminder of the people who have touched our lives.

Each angel comes with a recognition card and is packaged in a ribboned cellophane bag. Shipping boxes are available, and Mount Evans will ship angels on request. The name of your special person—whether in memory or recognition of—will appear in the online Book of Angels at www.MountEvans.org. For more information about receiving one of these wonderful angels in return for your $25 donation to Mount Evans, visit the website or call 303-674-6400.
